03 - Dark spot

Another weakness in the current evolutionary state of the Evil Belly Toads is the fact that they are too patient. They wait and wait and wait - and then they die. This is rather unfortunate, but there are always toads waiting in the queue. Whenever a pair of toads dies of the dreaded Waiting Disease, a pair of fresh, living toads are shipped in with helicopters.

Max and Min stood on the top of a small, green hill and gaped in wonder. The world that had revealed itself to them once they were past the gates could not be descriped in any other way: A world.

It had grass, green as such, and lots of it. Vast fields of ankle-high grass spread out in all directions around them, stopping only at the massive stone wall just behind them. Incidentally, the Stone Wall looked very sad, but Max could not pinpoint the reason as to why it looked just so.

The grass swayed gently in the light breeze that blew. The air was warm. To accompany all this green, was the colour of clear blue from the sky. It was a lovely summer day. Even the sun was there, smiling down at them, giving them a feeling of.. pinkness. A pink sun shining bright didn't feel right, and yet.. it didn't feel wrong, either. As Max could do nothing about it, he put the problem at the back of his mind for the time being.

The sky was blue alright, and as empty of clouds as a wolf of no backpain caused by wooden, uncomfortable beds. Not a cloud in sight. Not a person in sight. Not a road in sight. In fact, nothing much in sight at all. Except a pink sun and a Sad Stone Wall.

"Wow," muttered Min.

"Mm," aggreed Max silently. "Wow is indeed the word."

"What's wrong with the sun?"

"Wrong colour."

"Yeah, but why's it pink?"

"Dunno. Maybe it's got the flu." Max still don't know that the flu is not pink at all, but rather a wolf suffering badly from eating frogs.

"Ah."

At that moment they heard something.

"I hear something," said Max.

"What is it?" Min turned towards him.

"Something," repeated Max. His eyes fluttered around the landscape in an attempt to locate the origin of the sound. For some bizarre reason he was indeed looking at certain place in the horizon when a dark dot appeared in a completely different place.

"Look!" Min yelled in surprise.

Max turned and said, "I see it. It's dark. Dark cannot be good. Dark is Evil."

"What should we do?" asked Min.

"Hide!" Max started to run down the hill, then came hesitantly to a stop.

"Where?" asked Min redundantly. Max cast her a glance that in any other world probably would have killed her.

The dark spot increased in size. Then they saw that they were indeed dark, but the one spot split up into many. Men, all dressed in black, came towards them at high speed. They were most likely evil, decided Max.

Then the Mighty Boa Constrictor yawned and the world shook violently as the earthquake jolted the land around them.
